Inspire were appointed by McCarthy & Stone to undertake the concept design and planning submission for a development totaling 122 No 1 and 2 bedroom residential apartments in a mixture of Affordable Housing, Assisted Living and Retirement Living accommodation. The development is serviced by 58 parking spaces and supported by a range of communal facilities. The architecture, materials, decoration, lighting, colour and texture of the building, responds to the quality and appearance of the surrounding environment. This pattern language benefits from larger apertures in habitable rooms, providing increased light and maximising views, specifically beneficial for habitats in this context. The building has been stripped back to its simplest form, identifiable as a module. The module is a unit - apartment type or ancillary accommodation. These modules fit together to allow the defining of space. With these interchangeable modules, we developed an expression of fenestration that would be the concept, resulting in a coherent and honest design approach. The scheme successfully obtained planning permission and is currently under construction following the development of the detailed technical design information by the Inspire team.
