Inspire Design were appointed by Tesco to prepare designs for an ‘Environmental Store’ on the site of a former industrial unit in Ystradgynlais.
The brief was to provide a building capable of operating efficiently with respect to its construction and its use carbon energy. The store was constructed by using a timber frame and timber SFS panels clad with larch. It has high insulation values to reduce energy needs and employs large overhangs to solar affected elevations to prevent overheating.
The project uses wind catcher technology for natural air flow, rooflights for daylighting and a combined heat and power plant (CHP) for on site energy production.
